IX International Postharvest Symposium
The organisation team of the Postharvest 2020 symposium has a goal of “shaking things up” with a strong emphasis on new researchers and students. As an example, we have invited mid-career keynote speakers, and will be promoting postgrad students with quick-fire poster presentations, workshops on publishing, and active mentoring. We will be making available a symposium App that will assist attendees in creating and maintain new interactions and relationships. Interactive workshops, social events and field trips that will include a visit to Plant & Food Research's Te Puke Research Centre, and a tour of Hobbiton and dinner at the famed Hobbiton Green Dragon pub.
In terms of science scope, the symposium will be devoted exclusively to biological and technological postharvest research of fresh horticultural produce. This includes postharvest storage, treatments and underpinning mechanisms, quality evaluation, packaging, handling and distribution of fruit, vegetables and flowers, but excluding grains, nuts and forages.
Abstracts on processing of such crops beyond refrigeration, packaging and minimal processing will not be considered. Presentations reporting novel insights from fundamental and interdisciplinary research will be particularly encouraged. These disciplines include systems biology, bioinformatics, entomology, plant physiology, plant pathology, (bio)chemistry, engineering, food safety, sensory science, sustainability, modelling, and technologies for nondestructive testing. The symposium is particularly keen to encourage new and emerging researchers, with a hope that we’ll able to offer all attendees an opportunity to speak about their research.
