Welcome to the 13th Australasian Plant Virology Workshop

The 13th APVW will be held on Waiheke Island, located in the Hauraki Gulf, Auckland, New Zealand. The workshop series provides a forum for scientists from Australia, New Zealand and the rest of the world to meet on a biennial basis to provide updates on their recent research relating to plant viruses, viroids, phytoplasmas and other obligate pathogens. The research areas include basic and molecular, and ecological and applied. For a list of topics covered, please refer to the Abstract Submission or the Program section.

The workshop will be held on 20-22 February 2018. In February, the days are warm and sunny (average 24°C) and perfect for enjoying an island retreat. Waiheke is just a 35-minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland. Waiheke has many award winning wineries (waihekewine.co.nz/our-wines/awards), some of which may be visited during the optional field-trip on 23 February. Waiheke’s amazing art scene draws many to the island, especially to its sculpture park (connellsbay.co.nz/sculpture_park_overview.html). Waiheke has beautiful beaches to stroll, including Onetangi beach which is adjacent to the suggested accommodation (onetangi.co.nz) and workshop venue. For the more adventurous, Waiheke offers archery, clay-bird shooting (wildonwaiheke.co.nz/play) and zip-lining (ecozipadventures.co.nz).
